Fungsi Karburator

Karburator merupakan bagian dari mesin yang bertugas dalam sistem pengabutan(pemasukan bahan bakar ke dalam silinder). Untuk itu fungsi dari karburator antara lain:

1. Untuk mengatur udara dan bahan bakar ke dalam saluran isap.
2. Untuk mengatur perbandingan bahan bakar-udara pada berbagai beban kecepatan motor.
3. Mencampur bahan bakar dan udara secara merata.

Proses pemasukan bahan bakar kedalam silinder dinamakan karburasi. Sedangkan alat yang elakukan nya dinamakn karburator. Berikut akan dijelaskan satu per satu bagian dari karburator beserta fungsinya:
1. Mangkok karburator(float chamber)

Berfungsi sebagai penyimpan bahan bakar sementara sebelum digunakan.

2. Klep/jarum pelampung(floater valve)

Berfungsi mengatur masuknya bahan bakar ke dalam mangkuk karburator.
3. Pelampung(floater)

Berfungsi mengatur bahan bakar agar tetap pada mangkuk karburator.

4. Skep/katup gas(throtle valve)

Berfungsi mengatur banyaknya gas yang masuk ke dalam silinder.

5. Pemancar jarum(main nozzle/needle jet)

Berfungsi memancarkan bahan bakar waktu motor di gas, besarnya diatur oleh terangkatnya jarum skep.

6. Jarum skep/jarum gas(Needle jet)

Berfungsi mengaturbesarnya semprotan bahan bakar dari main nozzle pada waktu motor di gas.

7. Pemancar besar(main jet)

Berfungsi memancarkan bahan bakar ketika motor di gas penuh(tinggi)

8. Pemancar kecil/stationer(slow jet)

Berfungsi memancarkan bahan bakar waktu lamsam/stationer.

9. Sekrup gas/baut gas(trhottle screw)

Berfungsi menyetel posisi skep sebelum di gas.

10.Sekrup udara/baut udara(air screw)

Berfungsi mengatur banyaknya udara yang akan dicampur dengan bahan bakar,

11. Katup cuk(choke valve)

Berfungsi menutup udala luar yang akan masuk ke dalam karburator sehingga gas menjadi kaya, digunakan pada waktu start.

Cara kerja dari karburator dimulai pada saat mesin dihidupkan. Saat mesin hidup, mesin mengisap udara luar masuk melalui karburator. Karena kecepatan udara yang memasuki spuyer kecil, maka tekanan udara di permukaan saluran masuk rendah. Sehingga bahan bakar yang memancar melalui spuyer kecil.campuran bahan bakar dan udara akan menghasilkan gas yang nantinya akan dibakar di dalam silinder.
